Blizzard had given us an appointment this Monday, April 25 to talk about the release date Diablo Immortal. After a long silence, the studio has decided to speed up the movement. Let's take a look at what we've learned about Diablo Immortal and its planned content for the launch.
First announced at BlizzCon 2018, Diablo Immortal gave news during several phases of test : we learned more about its classes, mechanics, dungeons, balancing... However, following an alpha version in 2020, available only for Australians, and several tests, the game did not allow all players to access its content and did not give a release window either.
Blizzard has just announced the release date of Diablo Immortal via a trailer posted on YouTube: June 2, 2022.
After the release of the trailer that announced the release date of Diablo Immortal, Wyatt Cheng, the game director of the title, answered some questions from the community.
We have learned that this is the biggest and most ambitious game in the Diablo license. Its map is huge and separated into 8 different zones. 6 classes will be available at launch, including the Barbarian, Wizard and Necromancer.
As for the lore, Diablo Immortal takes place 5 years before Diablo 2, i.e. before the events of Diablo 3. But, of all these announcements, there is one that we did not see coming: the release of Diablo Immortal on PC.
The most surprising part of these announcements from Blizzard is without a doubt the existence and future release of a Diablo Immortal PC version. As explained in the interview, the developers decided to start from a mobile game base to reach as many people as possible. However, they wanted to make sure that the already existing fans of the license can enjoy the experience on PC.
Although unexpected, this turnaround for a new Diablo game on PC is not entirely surprising when you consider the resistance the mobile title has met with from the community since its announcement. Moreover, according to this interview, this port of Diablo Immortal to the PC based on a mobile game seems to be more like a port of an official emulator like Genshin or RAID: Shadow Legends than a title entirely designed for the PC.
Therefore, Diablo Immortal will be fully cross-play between Android, iOS and PC versions. In addition to that, the game will integrate cross-progression. In other words, it will be possible to extend your PC game session on mobile.
Finally, on the gameplay side, three solutions will be available: the touch controls of the mobile version, the keyboard/mouse on PC, but also the controller support on both versions. If you haven't already done so, you can already pre-register for Diablo Immortal before its release on iOS and Android to receive bonus rewards .
