The announcement was discreet, but this news is far from anecdotal! Sybo Games, the studio behind Subway Surfers, which was released in 2012 and has overa billion downloads to its name, has announced the soft launch of Subway Surfers City on Android and iOS. Available in selected countries for the time being, this sequel offers almost nothing new, but is a breath of fresh air for the slightly old-fashioned casual runner.
No official trailer, no announcement on social networks and no mention of Subway Surfers City on the Sybo Games website... The least we can say is that the soft launch of the sequel to Subway Surfers has been a low-key affair on the Play Store and App Store. Surprising, given the worldwide success of Subway Surfers, the first of its kind. Perhaps because this title doesn't add much to the first opus, one of the most historic games on the mobile?
Subway Surfers City uses exactly the same mechanics as the original game. For those of you who have been living in a cave for the last 12 years, Subway Surfers is a runner in which you play as a teenager who has to escape from a policeman, avoiding oncoming trains and numerous obstacles. Collect coins to unlock perks, hoverboards and new characters, and try to reach the high score in frantic races.
There's nothing new under the sun in Subway Surfers City, apart from the improved graphics and animations, which bring a real breath of fresh air to the original game. There are also new obstacles, new races and a few new characters.
If you're curious to discover or rediscover Subway Surfers in a modernised version, pull out your best VPN and head for the UK, Canada, Denmark, Indonesia, the Netherlands or the Philippines, if you have an iPhone. For that, we recommend Cyberghost!
For those playing on Android, you'll need to target Denmark and the Philippines to enjoy Subway Surfers City. No global release date has yet been announced, but we'll keep you posted.
